Take Action: My letters to our leaders and resources to write your own

On this page, I’m posting copies of letters I write to lawmakers about Global Climate Change. I’m also posting links to resources that can help you write your own. Please join me in influencing our leaders to Act! The most effective letters and emails are those written to your own representative and senators. They know the people they represent gave them their jobs and will decide if they get to keep them! So, we need people from all over the U.S. to write letters if we are going to create real change.

Helpful resources for writing your own letters or emails

This website provides helpful advice about how to write an effective letter or email to one of your Congressional representatives (Senator or House member).

This website provides links to contact information for the President and Vice President, as well as tools to identify and contact your U.S. Senators, U.S. House Representative, and state Governor.

This website provides specific public statements by our lawmakers who have declared themselves skeptical about Global Climate Change. If you click on your state in the interactive map, you can see specific public statements by lawmakers from the state. One idea for your letter might be to rebut their skeptical public statements (directly but politely) using evidence.

The League of Conservation Voters maintains this National Environmental Scorecard, a record of each lawmaker’s votes on bills related to the environment. While not all of these have been directly related to Global Climate Change, many of them have been and they are called out in the “Issues” column of the scorecard. You can search for your senators and representative, using your zip code, and quickly see how they’ve been voting.

The Center for Science and Democracy and Global Warming blogs, published by the Union of Concerned Scientists, are good sources for articles on recent and upcoming Congressional bill introductions and votes. You can use this information to persuade lawmakers to vote for policies that preserve and strengthen our efforts to address Global Climate Change.
